Edit text in Sophora Web

Learn how to edit text with Sophora Web.

Overview

If you create a new document or open an existing one, you will be directed to the document page. There, you can edit the document, for example, headline, teaser, rich text, and text with paragraphs.

The document page can consist of multiple tabs which contain the document's fields. Which tabs are available depends on the system's configuration. The Components tab can be used to add and edit components of the document.

The document's action bar is shown at the top of the document, allowing you to save and publish it.

Change the width of the text editor

You can resize the text editor to a reader-friendly width.

To change the width of the text editor:

  • Above a text editor, click or tap Change width.

Set and change the paragraph type

To change or set the paragraph type:

  1. In the text editor, select a paragraph.
  2. In the text editor toolbar, select the name of the paragraph type.
  3. Select the appropriate paragraph type from the menu.

Move paragraphs

To move paragraphs:

  1. At the top right above the text area, click or tap Move paragraphs to open a special view optimized for moving paragraphs.
  2. Select and drag the paragraph up or down.
  3. Drop the paragraph in the right position.

Edit paragraph properties

Text paragraphs can have extra properties in Sophora.

To add paragraph properties to a paragraph:

  1. In the text editor, select a paragraph that potentially has paragraph properties.
  2. In the text editor toolbar, click or tap the star icon.
  3. In the dialog, edit the paragraph properties.
  4. In the dialog, click or tap Save.

To edit paragraph properties of a paragraph:

  1. In the text editor, select a paragraph that has paragraph properties.
  2. In the text editor toolbar, click or tap the star icon.
  3. In the dialog, edit the paragraph properties.
  4. In the dialog, click or tap Save.

To delete paragraph properties:

  1. In the text editor, select a paragraph that has paragraph properties.
  2. In the text editor toolbar, click or tap the star icon.
  3. In the dialog, click or tap Remove paragraph properties.

Format text

To format text in bold or italic type:

  1. In the text editor, select some text.
  2. In the text editor toolbar, click or tap the b icon for bold or the i icon for italic.

To create a bullet or numbered list:

  1. In the text editor, select some text.
  2. In the text editor toolbar, click or tap the bullet list icon or the numbered list icon.

Markup

To view and edit markup:

  • In the text editor toolbar, click or tap the Markup menu (brush icon) then select Show Markup.

To add language markup:

  1. In the text editor toolbar, click or tap the Markup menu (brush icon) then select Show Markup.
  2. In the text editor, select text.
  3. In the text editor toolbar, click or tap the Markup menu (brush icon) then select Language > English, German etc..

To add cite markup:

  1. In the text editor toolbar, click or tap the Markup menu (brush icon) then select Show Markup.
  2. In the text editor, select text.
  3. In the text editor toolbar, click or tap the Markup menu (brush icon), then select Cite.

To remove markup:

  1. In the text editor toolbar, click or tap the Markup menu (brush icon), then select Show Markup.
  2. In the text editor, select existing markup.
  3. In the text editor toolbar, click or tap the Markup menu (brush icon), then Remove Markup.

Manage multimedia text components

Your text paragraphs can be enriched with multimedia components. Each component references a document. Components are added to the text via boxes. Boxes can have settings of their own. Once added, the handling of text components is very similar to the handling of components on the Components tab.

To add a component to a paragraph:

  1. In the text editor, select a paragraph.
  2. In the text editor toolbar, click or tap the Plus icon.
  3. In the search panel, search for a document. You will only see appropriate documents.
  4. Select a document.
  5. Optional: If your document fits into more than one type of boxes, you have to select a box.

To move a box including its components to a different paragraph:

  1. In the text editor, select and drag a box up or down.
  2. Drop the box in the right position.

To reorder boxes in a paragraph:

  1. In the text editor, select and drag a box up or down in the same paragraph.
  2. Drop the box in the right position.

To edit the details of a box:

  1. In the text editor, click or tap the context menu (vertical dots) of the box you want to edit.
  2. In the menu, select Edit.
  3. In the dialog, edit the details of the box.
  4. To finish, click or tap Done.

To remove a box and all its components:

  1. In the text editor, click or tap the context menu (vertical dots) of the box you want to remove.
  2. In the menu, select Remove group.

Edit tables

To insert a table:

  1. In the text editor, move your cursor to the location where you want to add a table.
  2. In the menu, select the number of columns and rows to start with.
  3. In the text editor toolbar, click or tap Insert table (table icon).

To remove a table:

  1. In the text editor, select the table.
  2. Click or tap the table settings menu (table gear icon).
  3. Click or tap Delete table.

To add a row to a table:

  1. In the text editor, select a cell in a table.
  2. Click or tap the table settings menu (table gear icon).
  3. Select Insert row above or Insert row below.

To remove a row:

  1. In the text editor, select a cell in a table.
  2. Click or tap the table settings menu (table gear icon).
  3. Select Delete row.

To add a column to a table:

  1. In the text editor, select a cell in a table.
  2. Click or tap the table settings menu (table gear icon).
  3. Select Insert column left or Insert column right.

To remove a column:

  1. In the text editor, select a cell in a table.
  2. Click or tap the table settings menu (table gear icon).
  3. Select Delete column.
